The aim of this program is to provide education, empowerment, and hope by developing alternative ways of interacting with your loved one that do not include nagging, pleading, or threatening. CRAFT is an approach for families who have a loved one struggling with substances, but who is not really interested in making changes or getting help.
The goals of this program will be
- To improve your quality of life and to take care of yourself
- To help your loved one discover and adopt a pleasurable and healthy lifestyle that is more rewarding than substance use
- To be prepared and be patient
Topics will include
- Developing an understanding of what leads to substance use
- Learning behaviour and communication skills, even when things aren’t going well
- Using positive reinforcement to achieve non-drinking/use behaviours
- Have time out from positive reinforcement while your loved one is using
- Allowing natural and negative consequences to occur
- Develop reinforcers to enhance things your loved one enjoys doing that have nothing to do with substance use
Program participation is for
- Those 18 years and older
- Those who want support because they love someone–a child, a spouse, a friend–who is struggling with substance use (alcohol or other drugs)
