Mindfulness for Children is a 6-week workshop designed to teach children fun and creative tools to promote self-regulation, enhance resiliency, and develop healthy coping strategies to manage everyday challenges, anxiety and stress.
The Mindfulness for Children workshop is a mental health prevention program intended for all children between the ages of 8 and 12, and aims to increase overall well-being, enhance emotional awareness, reduce stress and promote optimism and happiness.
Informed by positive psychology, interpersonal neurobiology, and clinical psychology and cognitive behavioural skills, this workshop draws from the CHI Kids Happiness Tools for Life program and other evidence-based mindfulness programs.
In this workshop children will learn a variety of well-researched mindfulness strategies including:
- Play-based coping strategies
- Mindful breathing
- Thought Busters to deal with worries and stress
- Progressive muscle relaxation and sensory awareness
For parents, after each session you will receive an email update describing the skills and tools shared with your child during the mindfulness session. This will give you an opportunity to have dialogue with your child about the program, and even practice some of these strategies in your own home.
This workshop will be facilitated by Ashley Stewart-Tufescu, a certified CHI Kids Facilitator, and Michelle Warren, a child-clinical psychologist. Given this workshop is delivered by a clinical team that includes a registered psychologist it is covered by most extended health care plans.
