OSI-CAN is an Operational Stress Injury/Post Traumatic Stress Support Initiative. Initially created in January 2016 as a partnership between the Canadian Mental Health Association (SK) and the Royal Canadian Legion (Saskatchewan Command).
OSI-CAN Manitoba offers peer support groups (facilitated by members with lived experience), family support groups, and referrals to equine therapy programs. Our support groups provide a free, safe, confidential, non-judgmental environment where we can talk openly and build our understanding about mental health and find meaningful support and resources.
The people we serve are considered frontline responders due to the common experiences they share through the service they provide to our country and communities. This demographic can include those who work in communications (i.e., dispatchers and other communications centre staff), emergency medical services, firefighters, police services, corrections, courts (lawyers, court reporter, judges, etc.), probation/parole, victim services, social workers, addictions staff, community outreach, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and funeral homes.
All groups are open to new members, please feel free to drop in anytime. If you have any questions please call Sheryl at 204-982-6100 or email at sgiesbrecht@cmhawpg.mb.ca
