My name is Brandon Friesen, Ride Don’t Hide 2021 Staff Ambassador for CMHA Manitoba and Winnipeg.
I am undertaking the Ride 330 Challenge, riding my bike for 330 KM between Selkirk and Hecla Provincial Park. Why 330? $330 helps one more person in need of mental health support, receive the help they deserve from their local CMHA. Also the Federation of CMHA has 330 locations from coast to coast to coast. We challenge all Ride Don’t Hide participants to raise one dollar for every kilometer that I ride.
I ride because having support for youth mental health is important to me. Having struggled with anxiety and self esteem growing up, I know that conversations and support around youth mental health is important. We should always look to challenge the status quo because mental health support for our youth means a strong community and a positive future.
Why should you join my team?
Move More – Physical exercise is backed by research to improve your mental health.
Give Back – Connect with the cherished people in your life to raise money.
Feel Better – Along your ride, you will learn tips and tricks for your own mental health.
To join my team, you can move your way. Ride outside with an ambitious distance goal in mind, or simply a leisurely ride on a Sunday afternoon. Ride inside with a 30-day spin challenge, or on a stationary bike while you watch your favourite TV show. Or ride in spirit because we want you to ride your way: follow a yoga program with instructional videos, commit to dancing for half an hour a day in June, complete a jogging training program – however you want to move, that’s your ride!
Ride your way and join my team your way. Connect with the motivating factors that inspire you to ride, and let that inspire you to move more, give back, and feel better. I invite you to follow my blog every week where I will share what I’m learning as I embark on this 330 challenge – come along for the RIDE!
